Truth Defence is the offshoot of an initiative originally founded in 2020 by Andrew Feinstein, director of Shadow World Investigations, and Justin Schlosberg, Professor of Media and Communications at University of Westminster.

In November 2023, the digital assets were donated to freelance journalist Mohamed Elmaazi who is the sole contributor and editor-in-chief of the website.
